As a geographer I’ve always had a passion for colourful diagrams that not only look good but tell you some interesting stuff about the world. I’m not sure when the word ‘infographic’ first appeared (perhaps we need an infographic on that?) but many examples can be found – old and new. Some good illustrations of the range through time can be found in the Guardian’s recent article on data visualisations. For great use of clip art you can see David McCandless’ beautiful (and informative) book Information is Beautiful which is also accompanied by an excellent website of the same name. Other amazing examples of this artform can also be found at Catalogtree. Inspired by these great creations I’ve had a go at my own infographic to illustrate a song – check out my Portfolio for details.
